D.A. Carson says that if you live long enough you will surely suffer. The only thing that can prevent that is to die young. So, sooner or later we will likely experience devastating pain. When pain and suffering strike it’s natural to ask, What in the world is going on? However, as we look at Job 1:1-22 (ESV) we realize that there may be more to suffering than meets the eye. The question is what does our personal suffering and affliction look like in light of a sovereign and good God and how do we hold on to hope in those times life hurts the most.
1. Share a bit of your story. How have you experienced suffering in your life, and how did you get through it?
2. Discuss the statement: “The cross is proof that God is not indifferent to the plight of man.”
3. How does knowing God is both sovereign and good provide an anchor for your soul in times of grief and suffering?
4. Break up in to groups & Pray for each other.
